6 Day Tour in the North of Morocco
Day 1: Tangier - Tetouan
Arrival to Tangier at 13:25. Afternoon visit to the Medina of Tangier - the so called "Bride of the North". Transfer to accommodation by the Mediterranean coast.
Day 2: Tetouan
Full day visit to the Medina of Tétouan… a chance to sample the everyday life of one of the World's Heritage Sites, the Medina of Tétouan. This labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways gives an amazing insight to the historical old part of the town. The tour includes visits to the Jewish, Arabic and Spanish quarters which have lived in harmony side by side for centuries - a fine example of understanding and tolerance between the different nationalities. Lunch (optional) at one of the best Moroccan restaurants to taste splendid typical local cuisine. Afternoon visit to one of the city museums and optional shopping time. Return to accommodation in time for dinner.
Day 3 : Trekking in the region of Tétouan.
Full day or half day of easy walk in the surroundings of Tétouan to discover the daily life of the Rif people. Half day trek: Early departure from accommodation to a typical village of the Rif nearby Tétouan to start our walk. Three hours of leisurely walking through splendid countryside with magnificent views. We end our walk with a refreshing glass of mint tea, by a natural spring. Transfer back to accommodation. OR Full day trek: A full day tour to a regional park further afield hidden deep in the Rif Mountains. A chance to discover the natural beauty of the area during the drive to the start point of this easy walking trip. There is the possibility to see Barbary apes along the way with flora and fauna typical to the region. Lunch break and relaxing time. On our scenic return drive we stop for refreshment, arriving to accommodation in the early evening.
Day 4: Tetouan – Lixus – Asilah - Tetouan
An intensive day, full of historical interest to the famous Roman town of Lixus, the Medina of Asilah, the legendary Hercules'Caves and Cap Spartel where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean oceans merge. Lunch (optional) in a traditional restaurant close by the Medina of Asilah or free time. On the way back, we follow a different route to take advantage of the change in landscapes, to arrive in time for dinner.
Day 5: Tetouan – Chawen - Tetouan
Visit the Medina of Chawen with its Kasbah & main spring. This mythical town is situated in the heart of the Rif Mountains nestled between two peaks "Chawen" (two horns in Berber).The winding streets gradually climb towards the fortified Medina with its famous blue and white painted houses giving you the impression of time stood still. We take lunch ( optional ) in the impressive Plaza of Chawen, relax, visit the Kasbah recently declared a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO and return to Tétouan in time for dinner.
Day 6: Tetouan - Tangier
10:30 a.m Transfer to Tangier's airport. Departure from Tangier.
